This site has been a mess for a while for which many apologies – read on for some excuses – and it is still very much under construction.

Its main purpose is to publicise my books and songs but I’ll be filling it out with other stuff, tentatively including a blog. I don’t know how that will pan out.

For years as a journalist I got used to getting an idea, writing about it, and seeing it printed. I quite miss all that, so I may write a lot. But everything takes me so much longer as I go further into my dotage and I have other writing to do, so I may not have the time or the energy. Or the life. We’ll see.

One subject I could write a lot about is Information Technology, or to use a broader term, information processing.  If this a switch-off for you, I invite you to ignore my piece entitled How not to set up a website. It is of minimal interest to technophobes, unless you like to gloat, but it explains the mess I’ve been in here.

Nevertheless you might take a look at pages tagged IT seems to me  because they speak of people like you, who may be missing aspects of computing that could, perhaps should, be of interest to any thinking person. Anyway it is part of my Credo.

I plan to reflect on other aspects of IT, including some that struck me during my years writing for Personal Computer World magazine in London, such as the mathematical genesis of the shell pictured above, which sits on my desk.  The maths is child’s play but the lessons could not have been learned before the advent of computing.

Be warned that IT is not my only obsession. I may end up reflecting on anything and everything. As (and if) I post more on the site I’ll signpost this stuff so you can filter it out.
