A picture in 140 syllables
I’ve liked writing to pictures since my days as a deskbound subeditor when captions offered the only opportunity for me to react personally to events, albeit in tabloidese. Later, during a brief phase of writing sonnets, I had a notion of linking them to pictures. The image above is one result.
I’m not sure, incidentally, that I would now concur with the sonnet’s grand assumption that humans are the only beasts capable of appreciating beauty, though we appear to be unique on our planet in being able to express it.
Click here for another picture sonnet, called Autumn.
The third poem I’m posting for now, Synergy, is not a sonnet but it also comes with a picture. The original was typewritten, like the one above, which accounts for the awkward word windows.
